We took our tree to the "tree dump" last week, and I have to say, it was sort of sad. In my head, I just kept thinking, "This is where trees go to die." Maybe I will invest in a wood chipper so we don't have to do this next year. I bet that would make me sad too. No! Trees don't have feelings, trees don't have feelings....
THEN, it really bothered me that all the un-purchased live trees will
just go in the landfill. That's another terrible thought. I mean,
what's Christmas without picking out a live tree, strapping it to your
roof, dragging it in the house, arguing over where to put it, trying to
get it straight into the stand, vacuuming all the needles, finding needles everywhere for months and then watering it every day? Labor of
love.
I have always had a live tree. I don't prefer the "fake" trees, however, synthetic trees are greener. Isn't that ironic?
Does your family get a living tree or do you have to get it out of the attic each year?

Growing up started with live trees then my parents switched to a fake one, which looked pretty darn good.
ReplyDeleteNowadays we are live. Little B picked it out and it was beautiful.
Ours is currently sitting on the bonfire pile in my yard.
If it's dry it will go up like WHHHHHOOOOOOOOSH! Fun!
DeleteTell me more about this "tree dump". Ours is currently sitting in our backyard because we apparently missed tree pick-up day. Where is this sad place? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh, and it's REAL trees at our house. I can't have anything but.
Mickey D - you just made me feel SO MUCH BETTER! I just read the site AGAIN and it turns out that the city grounds the trees into mulch for us!! THANK GOD! I seriously feel better.
DeleteOn the down side, you missed the pick up:

It was only until Jan 14th - BUT, how cool is it that there are several locations. Good to know for next year. Plus, it gives you a goal to get your tree down. Thanks for the question!
@ Mickey D - I guess there are still trees over at Schneider Park by Heatherdowns/Glendale area. You know where that is?
