Spice it up

I do love the Dr. Oz show, I just can't help it.  Although every time I watch it, I feel an immediate sensation afterward to sprint out of my house and get every possible new vitamin on the market and incorporate apple cider vinegar in all my food.  And I hate vinegar.

On Tuesday, the good doctor featured trainer and fitness guru Kim Lyons and her 10 day fat flush!  Read all about it here.  Kim highlighted this spice rub for protein that sounded delicious that I quickly scribbled on my bank statement while watching.  Later that night in the grocery store, I couldn't remember exactly what it was.

Here is what I concocted based on memory (guess I need some ginko bilbo baggins or whatever):
Equal parts:
Ground Mustard Seed
Sea Salt (had to)

What I was supposed to do:
Chili Powder
Ground Mustard Seed
(no salt of course!)

I rubbed that onto tilapia and pan seared it in one tsp. oil and finished it in the oven.  Seriously?  SO DELISH!  Ms. Lyons claims this spice rub will set your metabolism on fire.  On fire.  Well, Kim, I will rub that stuff all over my body if that's what it takes.  I put it on my egg whites this am.  How was it?  GOOD!

What kinds of spices do you like to use and what kinds of spice experiments have you done?

Click over to 2:47 to see Danny work is magic on some chicken!

I actually was able to go to the studio and watch in person.  So fun!  Talk about smell-o-vision.

My, my, my hematoma

Axl Rose fell off a table whilst serpentine-ing at an after party in Moscow the other day and busted up his leg.  What can I say - LOL?  This is a funny image in my mind.  Chugging whisky out the bottle, smoking a cig, and slithering his famous dance, then WHOOPS!  Off the table sustaining a very bruised leg.  Hilarious.   Article here.  He looks a little crazy (er, crazier, in this photo from the article), sort of like Drop Dead Fred.  *Dislike*

Axl - I will always think of you as the Rock God you are.  Like this:

William Bruce Bailey posted a pic on Twitter (yes, I follow him on Twitter) of his injury, and it is quite an odd photo.  It looks like an arm, but we know it's his leg.  Oh, Axl, ever the media whore mogul.

At my desk when I returned from a meeting. Subtle hint that I need to calm down?

I miss VHS

Over the weekend, the most fun of all....sitting around a fire and drinking, telling stories and laughing with some of the people that you love the most. Our topic: movies we loved as kids. If you are my sisters, you love weirdo/awesome movies like Police Academy, the Burbs, Big, Gremlins, Goonies, Indiana Jones, Adventures in Babysitting, and of course, Teen Wolf.

Now, Dad was clever and he taped these movies off TV so they were not only edited, but included commericals. Only in the last few years did I have any idea that Mahoney hired a hooker, that Ferris Bueller had a singing slutty nurse visit, or that they there was any swearing/sex/innapropriate whatsoever at all in these movies - it was the EIGHTIES! You couldn't get away with anything in network television. And it was awesome.

The commericals were my favorite too. Billy Crystal? "Uuuuu luuuuk mahhhvelous baby. Uuuuu rrrrreally duuuu." The micromachines man? How on earth did anyone talk that fast? We always tried to impersonate him. Can you imagine how annoying that was for our parents? Toyota commercials? Yeah, we jumped off everything with our arms in the air too singing, "Toooooooy-o-ta!"

Enjoy this clip from Teen Wolf as the basketball coach gives his life lessons. Recalling this quote is what put us over the edge with laughter. (Sorry I can't post this in a better format - Ky, I need an iPad lesson in July).

Test Drivin

On Tuesday, the Chef and I did a little car shopping. His Toyota 4-Runner has been an amazing beast of a car for him, but it's time for a new one. We are looking for a smaller SUV with 4WD that also has good gas mileage. Ford Escape, Chevy Equinox
ended up high on our list. First we went to a Ford dealership in Toledo. The manager had to find a salesman to assist us and then from there it was like pulling teeth with this guy. I truly felt like we were interrupting his day. Never asked our names, did not offer to have us drive a car, did not even get keys when we walked on the lot. Chevy was the total opposite end of the spectrum. Greeted at the door. Information right away with offer to drive. Salesman was nice and personable and rode along on the test drive. Asked US questions on what we wanted. I love it! Love the process. Love a nice salesperson who listens. The Equinox is a great car. No idea if the Escape is because we didn't really get a lot of info with just looking at the stickers in the lot. What a difference the experience is based on who takes care of you. Do you have an SUV? What kind and do you like it?

Am I allowed to say?

I think blogging with iPad is difficult and I don't like it. I need an 8th grader to give me a lesson. That's it.

Star Wars Friday

May 4th. May the Fourth. May the Fourth be with you. The Mud Hens are celebrating Star Wars day by hosting a costume contest after the game. Can I come JUST for the parade?
