Test Drivin

On Tuesday, the Chef and I did a little car shopping. His Toyota 4-Runner has been an amazing beast of a car for him, but it's time for a new one. We are looking for a smaller SUV with 4WD that also has good gas mileage. Ford Escape, Chevy Equinox
ended up high on our list. First we went to a Ford dealership in Toledo. The manager had to find a salesman to assist us and then from there it was like pulling teeth with this guy. I truly felt like we were interrupting his day. Never asked our names, did not offer to have us drive a car, did not even get keys when we walked on the lot. Chevy was the total opposite end of the spectrum. Greeted at the door. Information right away with offer to drive. Salesman was nice and personable and rode along on the test drive. Asked US questions on what we wanted. I love it! Love the process. Love a nice salesperson who listens. The Equinox is a great car. No idea if the Escape is because we didn't really get a lot of info with just looking at the stickers in the lot. What a difference the experience is based on who takes care of you. Do you have an SUV? What kind and do you like it?

I drove an Escape (a few of them) for about 8 years. Loved them. I just had to upgrade to a bigger car. Now, I drive the Chevy Traverse and LOVE it. It's the bigger version of the Equinox. They ride so well - much better than an Escape. Smoother ride. My SIL has an Equinox and loves it.

We shopped the Chevy dealer in Sylvania and they were pretty nice, but wouldn't budge on price. We drove to the Chevy dealership in Monroe and were blown away with how nice they were and amazed at the price difference for the same car. So much cheaper! Worth the 20 min drive. This was 2 years ago...

Have fun car shopping! I love test driving cars. How fun (yet weird) of a hobby would that be?!?

I know you drive a Jeep and I love mine too. I would agree with your statement about the treatment at Ford vs. Chevy dealerships. I have heard that that Monroe dealerships offer much better incentives and pricing so I think it would be definitely worth the drive to check it out there too.

I've had a Saturn Vue, and my husband has the bigger Jeep Liberty (square kind), but also drove a Cadillac Escalade...I'm very impressed with the GM products. I can honestly say though, I don't have an opinion of Ford because I have never driven one.

Have fun shopping...I LOVE a new vehicle!!!!

@Ragan - I have a Compass, so getting a Patriot is like having the same car. I had a Liberty and LOVED it.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!!

@ Sassy - the Traverse looked awesome too!!

@ Merp - I have always wanted a Grand Cherokee. This car is mostly for DT, so I will wait until I need one.

We have a Kia Sorento. LOVE the vehicle, but probably wouldn't buy another Kia because the salespeople (that we've dealt with) and their process are weird.

My dad retired from GM (37 years, whoa!), so I'm a Chevy girl, but the cost of the Sorento lured us in. It's been a great car and the service has been great. It was just the initial/sales experience with Kia. If I didn't love the car, there was no way I would've done business with them.
