Weight Loss Wednesday and the Balance

Ok, confession....I have not been to weigh in in several weeks.  I'm a bad person.

BUT!  I have a scale at home and I am doing fine...not losing but maintaining and I'm ok with that for now.  My ultimate goal is to lose 15 more lbs and I know I can do it.  Not before the wedding but I know I can do it.

My goal was to lose 40 lbs for my wedding and I did it....I can't believe I actually did it.  It is such an incredible feeling to set a goal that seems almost impossible and to truly accomplish it.   The hard part is (well, the hard part was losing all this weight!), the hard part is to keep going.  You can't just rest on your laurels and and eat ice cream every day because you "accomplished your goal."

Unfortunately, or fortunately, weight loss is a healthy lifestyle and is all about good choices and living a social life (or me anyway).  It is constant effort and progress checks.  There are new goals now.  It's not like when you graduate, get a diploma and no one can ever take it away from you. It's a slippery slope and one donut can lead to an entire box, and a box can lead to movie popcorn that can lead to 5 lbs up, which goes to 10, then guess what?

I sometimes dream that I have gained all my weight back after I have a little treat.  This is crazy behavior, I understand that.  I get nervous when I go out of town --- what If I lose control and can't get back on track?  Crazy.

I think this is a fear or reality of so many of us that struggle with our weight.  We don't want to gain it back and we are afraid of food, but we love it still.  We want to stay away from certain types of food but we have to eat to live.  It's all about finding the balance, blah blah blah, but for some of us, it is difficult, all the time.  Every party, every weekend, every event.  There are always going to be challenges.  It's just about what is the most worth it.  Feeling healthy and fit and enjoying fitting into your clothes?  Or food (and beer!)?  Balance.  Must work on the balance.

People are Crazy

Yes! I have not had an occurrence of PaC in a while and you know you can't just go searching for it. It has to find you.

Well, PaC came back with a bang. Kroger -lunchtime, produce section. I was minding my own business selecting some peaches and I hear some odd giggling and screeching.

"How 'bout I ask this lady? This lady with the peaches? She looks nice?"
"Daddy - NO!" More awkward giggling.

I didn't even want to look. Peach references make me think about Nic Cage and know the scene. The exchange between the man and girl was so weird and creepy. I looked up, hoping it would get better. No dice.

"It's her birthday and how 'bout you hold her down for some birthday whoopins?"

Oh dear lord of the peaches.

"Uh....uh...huh-how many would that be?"

Sweet organic pears! Twelve! She's almost a teenager! He was chasing her around like they were at the Homecoming dance and he was trying to steal a kiss. She was taller than me, pretty, with a cute outfit, long hair and was just grown up looking. Barf.

I promptly escorted myself to aisle 2 to get away from these people. While picking up peanut butter and jelly, I could still hear the birthday victim calling, "No, haha, Daddy, no!"

I felt like I was in CSI Kroger. I felt icky all day.

Sick, sick, sicko.

The Help

On the way to New Jersey, I read almost this entire book in the car.  The next few nights after work, I couldn't wait to get home to finish it.  The Help was a page turner for me;  it read very well, was written in several characters' voices that made it so interesting that I found myself really getting involved in the drama of the story.

Short thoughts - I admired Skeeter, Minny made me laugh at times, Abileen was so incredibly strong, I wanted to strangle Hilly and tell Elizabeth to give up her children for adoption.   I can't wait to see who is playing Missus Stein and see what Ceilia Foote is wearing.

Overall....I loved it.  What a compelling story based on factual events.   It was maddening, frustrating, heartbreaking, touching and shocking.  All elements of a fascinating story.  What I took from this book, though, is that we all need to be kinder to each other.  Also, we need to not assume that we know someone's thoughts, motivation, and that we don't always get answers about why something happens.  Just do what is right by you.

I did seek out a review section of this book and found some of the reviews absurd.  You can read them here for your enjoyment.  Haters!  Some people are so hard on the author and are pointing out mistakes like air-conditioning.  However, in the index, Stockett explains that she takes some liberties with the story to make it readable and a bit more entertaining.  Hey everybody, it's fiction.  It's for....FUN!  Lighten up.  It's not a textbook.

Great read.  Can't wait to see the movie.

Def Leppard with Heart

Can you see it?  Can you see my face?  If not, that's simply because it's melted. The concert melted my face off.  Heart and Def Leppard continue to amaze me.

Thank you to Tracy who turned me onto to find the show's list of songs as they were played because I just never, ever remember what the band plays.  I just simply forget.  Either I'm too drunk, too excited, or my mind just twists the concert after it's over.  My mental capacity needs a refresher course and is the perfect recap.  Here is last night's set list and photos from my uber sweet Samsung Galaxy to accompany the songs:

Rock and Roll (Zeppelin)
Magic Man
(We heard these from the parking lot)
Straight On
These Dreams
WTF (new album)
The Battle of Evermore (Zeppelin)
(Interjection - this song blew me away.  Leppelin is a favorite of mine and Nancy and Ann just KILLED it.  They both played guitars and just sang their souls out.  This was, in every sense of the word...amazing).
Love, Reign Over Me (The Who)
Let's Get Rocked
Can you see the snake running through the screen?  AN..I...MAL!

Love Bites
Rock On

Two Steps Behind
The band came out front to play Two Steps Behind and Bringing on the Heartbreak. My heart did break because it was so awesome.

Switch 625

During Photograph, the screens were full of old pictures of the band's tour.

I need to mention that Phil (on the right) is so ripped, it looks almost unnatural.  Tracy told me he is a body builder.  She's not fa, fa, fa foolin.

Pour Some Sugar On Me
Rock of Ages

Other items of note:

The draft beer was filled up from a hole in the bottom of the plastic cup.  The bartender sat the cup on top of the tap and the beer rushed up from the  bottom via a hole so there is no spillage or extra foamy head, making it a faster pour and less waste.  Brilliant!

Here is a picture of Danny and me almost 4 years to the day from our 2nd date ....same place, same band.  Love you Danny!

Dear Kylee,
You are so special and wonderful, funny and unique, I hope you can feel the love all the way in Mexico.  You have an amazing talent with your blog and you have brought so many together over it too.  Thank you for being you Ky.  I love you to pieces and cannot wait to see you.  You inspire me on a daily basis and I must say, you have friends you don't even know about that follow your blog.  They are not as privileged as I am to know you in person.

Enjoy your day --- cheese, cake, real Coke-a-cola, nutella.....fantastic!

Much love and hugs,

Tired of these yet?  Our photographer captured some funny moments and I wanted to share.
In front of the Museum, we just had to class it up.

The photographer had me CLIMB up in this window, and my short little sticks were swinging out.  Hilarious.

THEN, on the way down from the ledge, Danny had to basically lower me down but right after this picture, my entire ass was hanging out (see, you can almost see it at the bottom.  Obviously, being a supermodel IS hard work.

More classiness at the TMA

My favorite of the outtakes, here is Danny air-choking me.  The next five photos are of me cracking up.

Weeeeeee, represent....the Lollipop guild!  Don't we look like midgets?

Are you an iTunes user?  Sometime earlier this year, iTunes wiped out my iPod of existing music NOT purchased from their site and I have had to rebuild my collection.  As irate as I was when it happened, it has given me the opportunity to start from scratch.

However, I just downloaded the Best of Poison (remastered - yes!!!!), and Michael Jackson's greatest hits.  Seems I'm not really branching out much.  And yes, my first purchase after the annihilation was Gun N' Roses, all albums, no collections.  I'm a purist when it comes to Axl.  Why branch out when you can rock out?

Do you have any experience with Podcasts?  I get all excited when I see anything FREE on iTunes so I went for it.  I subscribed to Aisha Tyler's podcast and something else called "Stuff you should know."   Hey, it's free and I'm about to go on a very long car ride.
