Dinner for Schmucks

Worst movie ever.

Seriously - it was unwatchable and we had to turn it off mid-way through.

I can only handle the awkward, mess up your life, misunderstanding, kind of "humor" so much.  I like a good action, drama, thriller, or comedy (that's actually funny).  There is too much unresolve and annoying in my work life that I don't want my entertainment to have that in it.

I am sick so that got the best of me and out of boredom today I watched the rest of it.  The only good part of this movie is the actual "dinner" part.  The rest may make you want to kill yourself.

A few small updates

Nothing earth-shattering....here's a few things from me:

1)  I fell asleep in my parked car today.  I was feeling tired on the way back to work so the moment I shut off my car, my body also shut off....for 20 minutes.  I must have looked like Bernie a la Weekend at Bernie's.

2)  At the grocery store last night, the young gentleman was surprised to find gum and a pen in my re-usable bag.  I just laughed and asked him if he'd seen the commercials where folks get paid in Trident Layers, you know, to be friendly.  He scoffs at me and says, "I don't watch television."  Oh COME ON!    Who doesn't watch TV and who actually says TELEVISION.  Nerds.  That's who.

3)  I freaking love Costco.

4)  We are getting married in 9 months.  Wow.

5)  Teavana Tea and accessories are amazing.  I don't know how I ever drank black tea out of a bag but I never will again.  Teavana may be expensive, but it is sooooo worth it.  Drinking currently:  Oolong Yumberry.  Want:  Peach Tranquility.

That's all for now!

The Vanilla Ice Project

Why have we not talked about this show?  Rob Winkle aka VANILLA ICE is hosting a home renovation show on DIY network and, I must say, it's fun to watch.  Rob and crew renovate and flip high end homes in Palm Beach when he is not on tour (yes, he still tours!).

They are a fun, funky, tattooed bunch that likes to get stuff done.  They say a lot of hilarious things.

It's worth checking out.  I watched an episode titled, "Nice, nice Landscaping."  There was another episode called "The master SWEET."  HA!  I am not sure what channel the DIY network actually is and when the show is actually scheduled to run, but all can be viewed online.

Lazy Sunday Poll

Who still has their Christmas Tree up?

Come on, admit it.

ME.  HAHAH!  It's coming down today....and I'm sad.  I love it.
There is a Lord of the Rings marathon on tv right now....YES please!

What have I gotten myself into?

Looks like I have some serious training to do!  July 31st is the date for our regional warrior dash and we are in!  My Dad threw down the gauntlet so of course I had to accept.  I am excited and looking forward to the challenge and the fact that this is leading me toward an awesome goal.  But on the other hand...CRAP.

New Zodiac Sign Chart

Have you heard about this?  Last week it was all over the news, and I wanted to read up on it so I could report more accurately, but I am still confused about it (basically because I think it's all nonsense).  Apparently,

Ophiuchus is the new sign, the 13th sign of the Zodiac.

How can a new sign just get thrown into the mix and now, all of a sudden, if you were a Libra, you are now a Virgo?   It is explained in some articles that the stars are not aligned as they were 5,000 years ago.  That makes sense.  But my big question is, do the "personality" traits change with the sign change or are we all supposed to adopt new habits now?

I have never put that much stock in this stuff, but what about all those people that have really committed to it?  What about all the tattoos?

I bet this is a push for economic development in the tarot card business.  It's a good ploy too.

Did your sign change?

Lazy Sunday Poll

What is your favorite game show?  What show do you think you would be totally amazing on?

It's just obscene and marvelous all at once

While shopping last night at the local meat market Zavotski's, I almost tripped over the biggest vegetable I have ever seen.  I mean, I was so floored, I immediately picked it up and exclaimed aloud, "Is this real???"

The good people at Zavotski's know me and totally got a kick out of my reaction, therefore and egged me on by telling me the whole story of the mutant carrot.  I definitely had mouth agape syndrome for a full two minutes.  I HAD to buy it.  I just HAD TO.  Then I took pictures of it next to household objects and winter-white body parts so you can witness and also marvel in its gigantor.

Wheel of F_rt_ne

WHEEL.....OF......FORTUNE!!!!  Doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo, doo doo doooooooooooooooo!

You know you watch this game...you like it and you scream at the tv during the whole show.

"Don't buy an A!  That's a gimme!"

"S!  Come on!  Everyone knows there are at least 3 Ss on the board!"

I have a friend of a friend that was ON Wheel of Fortune and she was waaaay taller than Pat Sajak, which, I am sure, is not a surprise to you all.  She won some money and said it was fun.  I would personally, never go on this show.  I don't know if my brain just doesn't work in this fashion, but I never can guess these.  I am one of those dumb people who would not get it if only two vowels were left.

Yesterday:  Phrase
I WA_ _A HOL_ YO_R HA_ _ SA_ITI_ER

Answer:  I wanna hold your hand sanitizer

I had no idea.  I just want to be Vanna.  As a career.  How amazing would that be?  You just turn the letters...that are ALREADY lit up for you, look pretty, with a team of stylists and trainers backing you up, and applaud others for being stupid.  PS You are a B list celebrity which means you can eat a restaurants without too much hassle, but still make bank.  Sign me up.

The Price is Wrong, just wrong!

Have you seen the Price is Right lately?

Not only is Drew Carey's hair alarmingly starting to resemble the Biebs, but there is now.....wait for it....wait for it.....

A MALE MODEL!  Zoolander style!

Yes, Barker's Beauties have been infiltrated by a slim jim, spray tanned, guy smiley!

I was not sure whether to laugh or what.  But, basically I laughed.

Sadly, friends, I cannot find footage of this manvasion, so you will have to trust me or tune in yourselves.

Docks sinking

Navy Bistro, The Courtyard (it's banquet facility), and Tango's are all closed officially.  How sad for Toledo and the Docks area of Downtown!  I hope that the city can get a few great restaurants in these vacant spots that will do well and attract people and boaters.  This is a huge blow for Toledo and if new ventures don't replace the vacant spots I think the Docks area will be a terrible disappointment.  It is a wonderful area and something that Toledo has going for us, something of which to be proud.

The banquet facility was very nice, and a cool and unique property to have a wedding, not to mention one of the few places that utilizes the river.

Happy Birthday Iris Took!

Today is my blog's 4th birthday!  1225 posts and 4 years since my blog's launch on January 5th, 2007 and SO MUCH has happened.  The biggest thing is that I met the love of my life and we are getting married in the fall of this year. I could not feel more loved and truly blessed that I have found someone to share my life and that person loves me for who I truly AM.  Incredible.

Through the course of this blog's life I have also been through several jobs and residences, friends have come and gone, I have traveled to new places, lost some weight, been to 23 weddings, had a lot of fun, and of course, enjoyed writing this blog for myself and all of you!

When people find out about my blog their reactions are always so interesting to me. Some of them have no concept of what a blog is, some think blogging is weird or techie or nerdy, others are interested and come check it out (I love these people) and others say, "I had no idea you had a blog!"  This one excites me because I feel as if someone just found a brand new facet of my life when then learn about this blog and blogging in general for that matter.  It really is an enormous part of my life - when something wonderful or terrible happens one of my first thoughts is, "I have to blog about this!"  I am so connected to this blog - it really is a live journal, a place to share my life and pour out my heart to those that love me, those that know me, those that I have not ever even met, however we have truly become friends (and some people do not understand that, but I value you so much...and you know who you are).

Thank you to everyone that engages in this blog.  It thrills me more than you know when people tell me that they don't necessarily comment but they DO read.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

If you ever wanted to comment but didn't know what to say, today's your day!  Please comment on my blog's birthday - about anything.  Just say hi or tell me when your birthday is!  You may comment anonymously, but it's good to know who's out there.

Thank you again!

Love always,
Iris Took

Lazy Sunday Poll

Ok, this is getting to be ridiculous.

It's like I'm that person who runs late every day to work and has to think of an excuse...so here's my excuse.  New Year's Eve was Friday, so Saturday felt like Sunday and Sunday was like a bonus where we loafed on the couch and tried to eat healthy (fail).

SO!

Here is the poll...one day late :)

What was the last movie you watched?  Was it in the theater or at home?

We rented Date Night with Tina Fey and Steve Carell over the weekend and I must say, it was absolutely wonderful.  We just relaxed and laughed - out loud - a lot.  Those two are a terrific team, both very funny with tremendous timing and they work well together without overpowering each other.  Bonus - Marky Mark shirtless and James Franco as "Taste."  Double bonus - the dancing scene.  You know if you've seen it.

A New Year's Story

For the past several years, we have enjoyed ringing in the new year at a hotel party with our friends.  The convenience of staying at a hotel is so worth it - not having to drive or get a cab is so wonderful.  Our night was fun, but that is not what this story is about.  It's about checking out of the hotel.

The man in front of me was checking out and both he and the clerk were talking too low making my eavesdropping extremely difficult so I just stared at the ceiling.  I may or may not be hungover today.

I finally get up to the counter and the man asks me if my stay was enjoyable.  "Yes, thank you," I reply.  I drank approximately 15 vodkas and what would have been maybe 5 glasses of champagne but because they were direct pulls from the bottle we have no way of knowing so, naturally, I slept like a baby.

He continues to print out my receipt and as it prints, he looks me directly in the eye, reaches down, on the inside of his very tight jeans, with his entire hand, grabs/scratches his family jewels.  Maintaining eye contact.  Now, I still cannot tell you how he got his hand down his 501-shrink-to-fit Levis, but I can tell you that it was a cross between hilarious and wildly inappropriate.  I wasn't sure if I was going to laugh or barf or what, but it was really awkward.  Like Michael Cera awkward.

Happy New Year!
