Phone Voice

You know you have one....the phone voice.  Your voice gets slower, maybe a bit deeper, definitely more professional.  Some people go the other way and get higher pitched, sillier, downright giggly.  This will depend on whether this is a business call or a personal call (or maybe both depending on your profession).

Sometimes at work I will be crazy, running all over the place averting crises, but the phone rings and.....(compose self)......"Hulloooooooo, this is Colleeeeeennnnn......"

Either way, you know your voice changes when you get on the phone.  C'mon, admit it...

Yes, it is amazing. I start speaking proper English and adding the 'g' on all my 'ing' words! And yes, my voice goes up a little - but not annoyingly high pitched ;-)

HAHA! YES!

I answer phones at work and my sister and I were talking and I was bitching up a storm about something and angry and cursing and the phone rings and in a very polite & sweet way I answer the phone and after I transfer it I continued on bitching! It cracked my sister up that I can so quickly change my voice and turn the "professional" on!

This is SO true :)

is "phone voice" the same thing as "drive through" voice...because i think it's hilarious how people's voices change when they are ordering through the drive through. also...since we are cubicle neighbors...was this question inspired by my "work phone voice"? Hope it's not annoying...haha

This is so funny and so true! I do this all the time and laugh at myself afterward. My best friend actually just pointed out that I ALSO have a totally different voicemail voice. I swore she was lying until I really listened to it. So funny. No idea why, but my voice totally changes when I record my voicemail.

So true! I always get a big smile on my face and the hubs says that I am SUPER nice when I get on my work phone. He asked why I can't be like that all the time. Hahaha!

I used to make fun of my mom's phone voice all the time - now I have the EXACT SAME PHONE VOICE! Caller ID has helped some - like if I know it's my husband I usually am not that polite in how I answer (teehee) but at work where we don't have caller ID I'm always chipper and have my phone voice on in full effect. Just to mess with me my husband calls my office phone to hear how I answer.
