Flu Shot

Are you getting the flu shot this season? I guess doctors and nurses are recommending this shot, but it does not protect against H1N1.

What are your thoughts?

I am a little nervous to be honest. I have never gotten the shot and hear that a lot of people that get the shot get sick after they receive it.

THANK YOU

Thank you to everyone that was able to celebrate with me on my birthday - also those that sent flowers or booze, called, texted, emailed, bbm, facebook, blog or twittered birthday wishes! I feel so incredibly loved today it is almost overwhelming (in a good way). Being loved is the best feeling in the world and I am so thankful for my wonderful family and friends who made my birthday so special.

From my whole heart - thank you, thank you, thank you!

DIY photo matte

This photo matte is just a magazine page ripped out and trimmed down! I just picked out a page I liked that is a nice accenting color to the picture. I then found a darker purple page and cut out long strips to frame the top and bottom of the actual photo. This is fun! I guarantee your pics will look cool and unique.

Man bling

In some cultures, men wear engagement rings. In my business, I see ladies prance in here sporting big ol' sparkly rocks that scream "property of some dude." The first thing you do after hearing an announcement of engagement is grab a woman's hand and yell, "LET ME SEE IT!" When about the men???

I have heard/read that it is customary for men to wear engagement bands that will double as wedding bands in Europe and the Eastern countries.

Why doesn't our society require men to do the same?

Your thoughts? Do you have experience in this area?

1) Would you like / have liked your fiance to wear an engagement ring?
2) If you are man, how do you feel about this?

Did You Know?

This morning during a meeting this video was played and I found it fascinating. I watched it again when I came back to my desk and felt I must share with you:

Family Wedding

My cousin Amy got married on Friday night - ceremony at St. Joan of Arc and reception at the Hilton Garden Inn. We had an amazing time! It was great to get together with all the cousins. The appetizers were passed (stuffed mushrooms were my fave), the cocktails were top shelf (and aplenty for some of us), champagne toast for all guests, served dinner featured salmon, chicken, or a GIANT fillet of beef. The venue itself is about a year old and in the middle of the trendy Levis Commons. Here are some highlights:

Back in Biznass

Yes!! Today when I came home, I had a small package on the porch waiting for me - it was my camera!!!

I had to send my lovely digital camera (that DT bought for me last year as a birthday gift) into Sony as it was malfunctioning. Now, I had neither the receipt or the actual warranty. I simply called Sony support and explained to them that it was a gift, and that the store from which it was purchased is no longer in business. I spoke to a very nice gentleman who took me through a few trouble shooting steps (nothing major), and since we could not fix it over the phone (I had also tried on my own after consulting the manual of course), he gave me instructions on how to mail it in for repair.

From the time I sent it in to the time it was actually fixed and back on my porch was about 2 and a half weeks! My camera arrived just in time for a big weekend too - cousin's wedding on Friday and OSU/UT game on Saturday.

Bravo Sony, Bravo! The cell phone carriers might take a customer service lesson from you.

Is that all one piece?

Sweater vests! I love them and have several (much like the great Jim Tressel) and wear them all year round. What I cannot STAND is when someone tells me they like my vest, has the nerve to actually touch it, and asks:

"Is it all one piece?"

Why would it be one piece? As if I am so fashionably challenged that I could not put together an outfit on my own? Do I need to rely on Daisy Fuentes or some other Kohl's spokes model to have some overseas seamstress put a half shirt (DICKIE!) inside a sweater vest to make it easier for me?

No - everyone, it is not one piece, and it never will be.

Go Rockets!

I just heard two girls in the stall next to me say, "omg! We have on the same underwear! We're underwear buddies!".

I might be getting old.

Soda Pop!

When I get a fountain pop, I like to fill it up with Diet Coke or Pepsi and top it off with something with some flavor - like Cherry Coke or Root Beer. Do it! Trust me, it tastes like the entire pop is the regular variety without the calories!

Today I did this and my friend totally made fun of me. She said I probably mixed them all together as a kid. Remember what that was called? Suicide? All the flavors mixed together. Gross!

Let me set you straight - this is not all the flavors mixed together. It is Diet with a splash of something extra! Do it...do it....

Interview with Connor McManus

As many of you know, my sister works for a celebrity news company Gossip Center (formerly GossipGirls.com) and is often on the news giving updates on the Hollywood hot scene. She is also responsible for writing, editing and interviewing celebs. She just informed me that she is interviewing Sean Patrick Flannery tomorrow. Yeah, uh, that's CONNOR MCMANUS from the Boondock Saints to those of you that live under a rock. I just about fell over when she told me that. WOW! I'll post the interview when she's uploaded it.

She is polling the audience: WHAT WOULD YOU ASK HIM???

Boondock 2 comes out this year...here's a trailer:

Thanks Kylee!!!! I can now upload pics from my Blackberry!!!

I appreciate the tutorial - you are the best :)

Detroit River Cruise

For Nana's Birthday on 9/3, the family went up to Detroit for a river cruise. We boarded the Diamond Queen and shoved off from the dock right in downtown Detroit. The ship was a double decker liner made for scenic tours of the Detroit River (complete with a bar and snacks!).

The tour was just about two hours and our day could not have been more perfect - a clear day with a nice breeze, no humidity, and 75 degrees. The guide on the boat was both informative and entertaining for the 200 guests aboard. We saw the high points of Detroit and then rounded the bend at Lake St. Clair and headed back along the river banks that was Windsor. We passed some incredible houses, the Hiram Walker Distillery (Canadian Club), passed under the Ambassador bride, refineries, and of course, were privy to some fantastic lighthouses along the way.

The best part was that my uncle had arranged for a USPS tug boat to tie up to the ship to deliver birthday cards to Nana. We had all sent them ahead of time so she would get them on her cruise (her actual birthday). SHE LOVED IT!!!

After the cruise, we went to dinner in Greektown at Pegasus which offers authentic Greek fare. I have been there before so I knew we would enjoy the Moussaka, Saganaki, and Hummus. Opa!

Across the street, we visited Astoria bakery which had every baked good you could imagine - which all looked to die for! I got a cannoli that I had to put in the trunk so I wouldn't eat it and it would get delivered to DT as it was intended.

Pictures to come!!

Camera malfunction

My camera is broken! I swear it wasn't dropped or immersed in water - I would admit it to you.

I have to send it in to Sony to be repaired and since it is less than a year old, it is under warranty so hopefully it will be fixed for no charge.

Yesterday I actually purchased a disposable camera for the first time in years! I was fun (like we used to do back in the day) and I am excited to get my prints back. I also did not have the issue of running out of battery because everyone wanted to see their picture immediately after I took it (note - pet peeve!). I do miss my camera and who knows how long it will take to get back. I will update you on how Sony's customer service is.

GAF review

The German American Festival was incredible (as usual)!

Friday night I went to pour beer while it poured rain. The crowd was extremely sparse although I still enjoyed myself because I got to see the dancing, the Glockenspiel demonstration, and chat with people I see every year at the Fest. Leaving the fest was messy as the field was a hot mess. There were pickup trucks hauling cars out because they were all getting stuck in giant ruts. I just started slow and gradually picked up speed. I ended up going about 50 mph through the field because if I would have slowed down, I would have gotten stuck. I MADE IT by the grace of God.

Saturday's weather was vastly improved with clear skies all day and evening although it was a little chilly. A ton of people came out for Saturday and we truly enjoyed it. We caught the shuttle from Arnies and waited in line for over an hour for it. At the fest we drank from boots! It was incredible - I loved every minute of it. We waited an hour again to catch the shuttles back. By the time it was our turn to board the bus, the bus pulled up not far enough and it was truly a bum rush because the people in the middle of the line thought it was ok to board. A nasty biotch in a terrible red sweater and I sort of got into it as we shoved our way onto the bus. It was every kraut for themselves. Very disorganized. Will rethink the shuttle next year. Obviously, it was worth it for me, but for those that attend the GAF for the beer alone and not the culture and experience, it may not be.
