Greektown

DT and ventured up to Greektown Casino in Detroit last night for some fun. In my mind, Greektown was this whole entire section of Detroit that is massive and hopping.

Not exactly.

Although the casino itself is pretty big and the street is all lit up with Greek-style music playing, pizza joints, Greek eateries, and swag shops, it is one section of one street. I was thinking it was the size of China Town in San Fran. It was cool though.

Parking at the casino was FREE and really close - awesome. We ate at a very cool restaurant called Pegasus Taverna, Greek food, and it was pretty good (although not as good as the Beirut here). Then we went to try our luck in the casino.

Pretty fun night! Greektown is really tiny, but convenient. Smoking is permitted in the casino, but we didn't reek when we left, and I felt pretty safe in that particular area. Getting home was kind of a fiasco as there are always detours to I-75 South.

1) We love Aaron Pierce. He is someone we can trust and is one of the true good guys.
2) Olivia is the slime of the earth and I hate her guts. If she EVEN asks Aaron to do something shady involving Hodges and he feels so loyal to protecting her, he has to do it, I am going to have a fit.
3) Seriously, how can this little schmuck be the chief of staff? I hope she gets blown up or exposed to the bio-weapon and gets no medicine for it.
4) Tony, Tony, Tony. I cannot believe what you have become capable of doing.
5) I know Jack is going to get better somehow, but I really need to know how.
6) How intense was it when Jack got in Janis's face and screamed at her? She's annoying - I loved it!
7) I love Chloe - she is so loyal to Jack. She is also amazing with computers and systems.

Facial Scrub

I have never been a fan of "scrub" for the face and I will tell you why - it makes me break out. I must be a glutton for punishment because I still keep trying it, thinking it will "be different this time," or "the scrub has changed." No.

This time I tried Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub. It smells incredible, but after using it my face is bumpy and I am breaking out. Oh yeah, it stings when I put my face lotion on. Maybe it's the salicylic acid - that stuff sounds mean.

What's wrong with my face? I always read and hear that exfoliating is good for your face but I don't think it's good for mine. I don't have acne, but it's giving me acne. I don't get it.

Generic Prescription

Today is an important day - today I went to the pharmacy to get a prescription that I must take everyday - Topamax. I have asked the doc for a similar drug, but he says there is none and there has not been a generic since I have taken it (which has been over 2 years). Now, thank the good Lord that I have health insurance again that has prescription coverage because this drug does not have a generic and is $365 to fill - FOR ONE MONTH!

Now, I have paid this before, but my next plan of action was to go to Canada to get it cheaper. Today, finally, the pharmacist told me that a generic version of the drug has been approved just this week. YES! I wanted to hug him.

If anyone is a doctor or a pharm rep, please tell me why in the world, any drug would be that much to fill.

I am so happy!! With my drug card, my script only cost me $5. Amazing!

1) If Tony is going to be a villain, he should have remained a villain to the audience. I really thought he was a good guy and he got our hopes up and now he's a bad guy I am just depressed with his villain-ness.
2) He's still a really hot villain.
3) Letting Jack just have a seizure like that - terrible! Tony!
4) I like the sleazy/slutty lawyer. Like anyone believes she is a lawyer!
5) It has been too long since we have seen a cyanide-type capsule on the show. Those usually evoke drama.
6) I am really excited to see Jack's interrogation of Jonas Hodges next week. That will be really intense. I hope he makes that bastard cry.
7) Renee is a tough lady. She's had a rough day.

Run / Walk/ Run / Walk

I decided that I am going to run a 5k again this summer. Since I have run two before, I know I can do it and I need a goal. "Training" for a 5k seems pathetic, but you gotta start somewhere.

So, my weekly schedule right now is this:
Day one - Walk for 5 minutes to warm up. Run 1 minute, walk 2 minutes for 21 minutes. Cool down 5 minutes. Not that bad, right?
Wrong! I did this outside on Saturday and felt like a chump. The walking was fine, but the running was awkward and I think I looked like an idiot.
Day two - Walk for 30 minutes. DONE! Not bad.
Day three - Same as day one. I did this today on the treadmill. It was easier than outside and I liked it better for some reason.

So! That's my progress so far. I don't understand how it's humanly possible to run a marathon. My hat's off to your runners!

Bloggers Weekend

It was great to see all you fellow bloggers this weekend! I had a great time actually talking with you in person.

1) What is going on, Tony?!?!?!? I was upset.
2) Kim's back on the scene and all the male viewers are thrilled. Whatever. She still annoys me. Remember when she snuck out and season 1 basically happened because of her stupidity? Oh, and let's not forget season 2, 3, and then she basically disowned Jack. Now she calls him "Daddy?" Not a Kim fan.
3) I will forgive Kim if she lends her cells to her Dad.
4) We didn't see Olivia and that makes me nervous.
5) I used to really like the President, but lately she has seemed weak and it annoys me. David Palmer would have never let Hodges have a "meeting" with him. He would have continued the air strike. Good thing he was arrested though. I was getting angry.
6) Our fallen hero, Larry Moss, will be missed. I was really starting to like him.

Italics annoy me

Words that need an extra punch should be italicized. That's fine. What I hate is when someone sends me a document and the ENTIRE THING is in italics! Why? It just looks messy.

I hate overused italics.

Smoking in Toledo

Have you been to Papa Joe's on Monroe street lately?

We went there on Saturday night and on my way in I noticed a sign that said, "Smoking ban in effect on May 5." Smoking ban? I guess Papa Joe's just doesn't care that there is a city wide ban already in effect and either pays the fines or no one is enforcing it - and the patrons love it. I think literally almost everyone in the bar was smoking. I wonder how many more renegade smoking bars there are in Toledo?

Inside, I recognize the familiar haze of a bar that used to linger in every establishment in Toledo. I was a proponent of the smoking ban (even when I was a smoker) because not everyone is/was and the second hand smoke really is invasive. I forgot how smoky bars can get. We were in there for an hour, maybe, and I absolutely reeked when we left. It was disgusting.

Now, I am trying not to be a hypocrite here because I used to smoke and have been quit for several years, but my point here is that it is really nice that our bars are smoke-free now. I am very thankful for that. I don't think anyone really minds going outside.

iPhone vs. Blackberry

My Sprint contract has run out and I am still shopping for a new provider. Now, I am trying to decide:

iPhone or Blackberry?

Both have a lot of cool features and both will have about a $100 a month service plan, which is a lot, but I am paying around $70 now for a boring phone. I actually got my hands on both last night (no, not at Best Buy, at El Camino). I have to say it would take a lot for me to get used to the typing on the iPhone. My thumbs might need to slim down. I already have an iPod and a GPS. Plus, the people with whom I most frequently talk are on Verizon. I am leaning towards getting a Blackberry curve (the one with the actual, not virtual, keyboard).

Options PLEASE!

Mancy's Steakhouse

DT and I went to Mancy's Steakhouse last night for dinner. I had been looking forward to it all week and it did not disappoint.

First, I just love the restaurant itself. It's so dim, but not dark, and is so original. We ordered a nice red zin and filet Mignon. The extras are also fantastic - the bread, the steakhouse salad, the potatoes. Our waitress was great; she had probably worked there for 15 years and knew the line between attentive and annoying.

We sat next to a table of 5 of the most pompous, chauvinistic middle-aged men who basically bragged about their investments, accomplishments, number of wives, and properties the entire night. Hilarious.

Overall, it was a very nice meal, a treat for sure.

While reading Yahoo! today, I stumbled upon an article about Tom Brady and Giselle Bundchen's wedding. Reportedly, Brady's bodyguards actually shot REAL BULLETS from a REAL GUN at the paparazzi.

Are you kidding me?

I understand the paparazzi are invading but that's their job, and hey, you two are giant celebs. If you want some privacy, maybe you shouldn't announce your engagement and wedding location to the entire universe. Real bullets! I hope that body guard gets arrested.

Twilight

Finally! I saw Twilight this weekend with my sister and I have to say...I'm a fan. Vampire movies and the intrigue has always been of interest to me - I loved Interview with the Vampire and even down to the bad tv stuff like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

This movie is well done and visually stunning. Filmed in Washington State, the landscape is very impressive and helps set the mood. I jumped on Rob Pattinson bandwagon about 2 minutes into the film. He is amazing. I didn't find him that attractive in his photos, but seeing him in action is a very, very different story. I can see why the teenagers are obsessing and swooning.

It's no Lord of the Rings, but definitely worth watching. I may even pick up the book.

Isn't it funny

Some days people really point out the obvious. Take, for example, when you are eating chili from Wendy's. It's clearly marked Wendy's and the 10 packets of hot sauce would give it away if not.

"Whatcha eatin'?" Ugh. You KNOW what I'm eating! Go comment elsewhere!

Yesterday, I went the whole day with only one earring. And no one said a word.
