Car shopping

Ok, I know we have talked about this before but I am looking at other options for new car (my lease is up in September).
1. I have to buy; leasing is not an option because I will be driving too much.
2. I need a car and not an SUV. Gas is outta control and I need to be in the most fuel efficient car I can afford (turns out, I cannot afford an SUV hybrid).

So, here are the cars I am considering now. Tell me what you think.

Toyota Corolla
Toyota Camry
Volkswagen Jetta (although I swore I would never go back to Ed Schmidt in Pburg)
Nissan Sentra or Altima (I drove a friend's Altima last night and it is awesome)
Jeep Patriot (still in the running)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jeep Patriots. I could be biased though... I come from a long line of Jeep workers/enthusiasts.

I have nothing but great things to say about Camrys and Corollas. My dad works for Toyota and has been driving a Corolla for years without any problems. My brother too for that matter. They both got a Corolla because of the gas mileage. Also, soon (or maybe it already happened, ask a dealer) the size of the the Corolla is going to increase. It will be nearly Camry sized.

My mom bought a Camry in 1992 and drove it through 2006 or 2007. That thing was a machine! She never had any engine or computer problems. The only problem she had was that the car had a dumbass target painted on it. She got backed into and hit more times than I care to remember.

In short, great cars, great value, great mileage. And they are more American than most American cars.

Can't go wrong with Toyota, and I like the Altima also. Don't get a Jetta! Have you considered a Pontiac G6 or a Chevy Malibu...both look pretty good, and I think they have a bunch of deals on the Malibu. take a look, they look a lot different then they did just 2 years ago.

i'd say a Patriot...but that's just me.

i know honda accords get awesome gas mileage too. (i think i heard you can get to NYC on 1 tank. not sure if that's true or not).

Don't get a Patriot...you will not be happy with that later...remember what a good idea you thought the Bug was? Listen to Daddy!

Ask Jeff at SeaGate - he knows all about cars and I asked him about what car to buy around the time we went to the Detroit auto show (because my lease is up next summer and I'm already starting to think about my next car). He said that the Jetta or the Camry would be a good choice. I really liked the look of both of them....Sounds like everyone else has had great luck with the Toyotas.

PS - Whatever you choose, I better see that weird wood frog thing with the stick in his mouth on the dashboard!!

from this list, i'd vote toyota camry. my second vote is the altima. i would throw honda accord into the mix, but you haven't listed it - so i'll just shut up about my honda preference. i think you'll make a great choice!

I love my Jetta but I HATE Ed Schmidt! Why are they such jerks there?

I vote Camry from this list as well.

If you want a good, safe, fuel-efficient car, I'd go with either of the Toyota options. And I couldn't agree with MD more about how American they actually are. My husband also used to work for them.

I also like the Nissan Altima.

If you do get a VW, go up to Ann Arbor. DO NOT go to Ed Schmidt. I got my VW there and I've considered crashing it into their offices on more than one occasion.

I'm sorry, but you know I have to suggest a Honda to keep food on my table. Civics are great on gas, and you'd be surprised at the Accord's fuel efficiency. There's also the Honda Fit, which is a little rinky-dink car, but it's surprisingly VERY roomy inside and it gets great mileage.

i'd go with the altima out of your choices, its sleek and gets good gas mileage! if you are willing to go off the list, i'd go with previous commenters and say honda accord... they have a new body style which is sweet, and they are good on gas!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVED my Jetta. Ed Schmidt is stupid, but when I bought my car I got free oil changes for like 3 years or something. It was great. Again, I loved my jetta. I felt so comfortable driving in the snow with the whole, "traction control" thing. And I had the V6 and it was soooo peppy and fun.

I had a Toyota Carolla years ago and it was FANTASTIC. The thing was 12 years old when I finally sold it and had something like 200,900 miles on it. GREAT car. I like Toyotas.

When I read that someone had 200,000 miles on their car, my mouth dropped to the floor, and I kissed my wallet. Iris, listen to me and do what I said...remember "ohhhh, this is way better...!"

All I have to say is that my sister rolled a Jetta 3 TIMES and walked away from the crash. German cars are known for being tanks. Jettas are great on the highway and are VERY safe. Bonus: jettas are SUPER cute!!

i just bought a new 2008 altima 2 months ago and i am OBSESSED. it is soooooooo cute and on top of that is awesome on gas. i usually get 31-33 miles to the gallon. plus it drives amazingly, it's so smooth. i really liked the jetta's too, but one of the drawbacks of those are the parts are really expensive to replace if you need to!
