Bellboys - creepy or helpful?

When you check into a hotel, do you like it when someone helps you to your room? I really don't. I think it is creepy and I would SO MUCH rather do it myself. I know that nothing would happen, but usually the "bellboy" is a middle-aged man that makes weird general conversation with me in a hotel room with one bed...and then you tip him. Yuck.

I could do without bellboys. I agree that the service is creepy. Carrying my luggage is what B. is for. If he's not around, I'm sure I could manage by myself!

Yeah, I generally don't like doing anything for myself if there is someone who is getting paid to do it for me. I once had my car picked up and taken to the dealership because my tires were low on air. Whey they called me later and told me that the only problem that they found was 3 of the tires were low, and I just said "hmmm, that's something I guess I could've done myself," but I think we both knew I was lying. It's the same concept as the guys taking your luggage to the checkpoint at the airport...it's like,"I took all this time jamming this shit into my suitcase, I don't need to drag it through the terminal and then through the hallways of a hotel." Get over your assault fetish you have with low-paid workforce!

I agree. I will gladly give someone money to do the following: Carry my shit, cut my grass, pick up dog poop, bring me food, drive me around, etc. You know, stuff I COULD do for myself.

Let's add do my taxes, wash my car, do my laundry (in college, I do my own now, but I'm not happy about it,) clean my house, paint, park my car, fill out necessary paperwork at work, etc.

I'm with you, Iris - bellboys are creepy and it's awkward. I also feel the same way about shuttle drivers that want to help you with your luggage when you can do it yourself, but they just grab it and don't even ask.....
