I tried not to be a hypocrite, "butt"....

Today on the way into the gym, I noticed a guy standing about 10 feet from the entrance. He was just standing there, hanging out and finishing his cigarette. What? Right by the door? To the gym? Now, even in my hard core days of smoking, my rule was only AFTER I worked out and at least I had to be out of the parking lot to smoke, but really! I had to give him a dirty look, I seriously had to.

YAY Iris! Way to go! You know I'm the biggest hater of smoking, and right outside the gym is ridiculous.

Outside the gym is a bit much!

Also a bit ridiculous would be smoking outside hospitals! Last time I was there, I saw 2 people lighting up as they were leaving. Come on folks!

You know what would be more ridiculous? If you left people the F**K alone about things that they want to do to themselves. Where is there a more appropriate place to smoke than outside? I remember not so long ago when we had a word for people that smoked outside the gym...what was it again...oh, that's right, AWESOME!

Yeah, he woulda been a lot cooler if he had a cig dangling out of his mouth, other cigs rolled up in his sleeve, and on the treadmill. Awesome.

I use to smoke on the way there and then light up the second I got to the car. My working out days were short lived.

I smoked on the way to the gym, and the second "God's Breath," that's what my grandma calls wind, hit my face when I stepped outside, I would light up again, and the only people that would give me dirty looks, were the homeless, because they were wondering if I had cigarettes for them...I didn't!

That's just stupid. Like that person's life would stop if he didn't get outside as fast he possibly could and light up. His heart would stop if he took just one big step to the left, away from the door, to light up. He must do it right there at the entrance.

See, I'm all for smoker's rights and what not, but sometimes, people are jut stupid.

kristen W, she said 10 feet from the entrance...not right outside.

UGH! It is just an observation.

Whether the person is a foot or 10 feet or whatever from the door to the GYM it is just a bit ridiculous. Kind of like....well that seems to have defeated what you are about to do or have just done. If a person was standing outside eating a pint of Ben & Jerry's before going to work out or immediatly after I would give the same chuckle I am to the smoking thing. To me it is more about the engaging in an unhealthy habit whilst trying to also engage in a healthy one that is a bit odd.

OF COURSE...whatever they want to do is fine! Smoke, drink, eat whatever during your work out. Who are we to judge? But as humans we do and this is something I do find a bit funny.

My husband smokes and I never talk to him or give him crap about where/when/why he smokes b/c he is a grown man. But if this was him, I would give him shit about not even waiting before he just "had" to light up.

Ok, finished. Please feel free to tear into what I wrote and point out the flaws in my "argument" that isn't at all an argument or meant to offend you or criticize your own thoughts on this blog topic but merely my own friendly opinion. :)

And go.......

(Big Inhale) I do see your point. It's like ordering the supersize #1 and getting a diet coke, because you're counting calories...I just hate it when I get dirty looks because people think they know what's best for me...obviously smoking is a dangerous habit, but I think that it is better that people are trying to include some healthy ones also.

My point was that I don't care if people smoke, in fact I like to smell them after they smoke frequently. However, I was annoyed that he was blocking the entrance to the gym while smoking. That was annoying. I would have been annoyed if he was blocking the entrance to the gym while eating a Big Mac.

I totally agree with you that it is better to smoke and workout than to smoke and not workout. I used to do it myself, hence the title of this post.

Calm down Iris, you're going to blow your lid! Maybe you should smoke, and get rid of all your hos-til-i-ty! If he wants to block the entrance to the gym while smoking, good for him...I would only give him a bad look if he was trying to block the exit during a fire while smoking...that would just be bad taste.
