Um. Hmm. Tis an interesting question.
In the four years that I worked with 7 ENT docs, I've never heard of this happening, however it is possible. If the tonsil was not completely removed, even if just a "bud" was left, it does have the capability of regenerating itself (they are made of lymphoid tissue, which has this ability).
Why do you ask?
I am worried this is happening to me. I just got my tonsils out in Nov. of 2004 and used to get nasty infected tonsils 4-5 times a year. I feel like they are growing back because I looked in the back of my throat the other day and they looked like they were coming back. I will ask my doc next time I see her.
Interesting, Iris.I had my tonsils out when I was 4 or 6 and I I don't believe I've had any growth...
